The World Health Organization (WHO) has updated their recommendation on exposure to aircraft noise, but the datasets used are being questioned by our senior researcher Truls Gjestland.
A Systematic Review of the Basis for WHO’s New Recommendation for Limiting Aircraft Noise Annoyance was recently published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health. This review, conducted by Truls Gjestland, questions the datasets that have been used as basis for lowering the recommended noise limit to 45 dB Lden. He states that the recommendation is based on an arbitrary selection of existing studies comprising an imperfect and faulty set of data not representative for the general population.
